What is Medicaid?

Medicaid is a federally-funded program run by New York State and your local county (Suffolk County Social Services or Nassau County Social Services), which provides medical insurance and long-term care for middle to low-income persons or to the elderly or disabled.

Who can apply for Medicaid?

Anyone can apply for Medicaid, however there are various income and resource restrictions. We can help you understand the restrictions as part of the application process making it clear as to whether or not you have a chance at eligibility.

Why do I need Medicaid if I have Medicare?

Medicare only covers 80% of the financial cost for Doctors, Hospitals and Facilities. The other 20% is left up to you. You can pay out of pocket for a Medicare Supplemental Plan however, most plans are expensive and when you're on a fixed income, this cost can be difficult to manage. Medicaid can you your Medicare Supplement.

What is the difference between Medicare and Medicaid? 

Medicare is available to anyone over the age of 65 or to the certified disabled/blind who have worked and paid into the Social Security system. Medicaid is based on income and resource levels, and although anyone can apply, eligibility needs to be approved. We work to maximize your chance of being approved and make the process as easy as possible by doing most of the work for you.

What does Medicaid Cover? 

If eligible, Medicaid will pay for all medical care (including doctors & hospitals). prescriptions (unless you are on Medicare), homes care and nursing home care.

Does Medicaid have limits on monthly income? 

Yes, however; you can still become eligible regardless of monthly income. If your monthly income is above the limits set by New York State, you will be responsible to pay a monthly premium. This will all be explained to you in detail during your FREE consultation.

What documents will I need for my application? 

You will need to provide proof of the following: Age, Residency, Marital Status, Income, Banking, Property ownership, Health insurance premiums, Tax returns. We can help you obtain these documents if you do not have them and we will explain in detail which documents you will need during your FREE consultation.

How can my assets and income be protected?

There are numerous programs and choices available to help protect your assets, income, homes and resources. We will work with you throughout the process to understand these programs further.

How long does it take to get Medicaid approved? 

It can take anywhere from 45-60 days. 

​

What is a Medicaid Pooled Income Trust? 

It is a way to shelter your monthly income in order to avoid paying a monthly premium for Medicaid however, it can only be used for community level Medicaid.
